CWM Celebrates 25 Years!
Since our founding in 2001, CWM has helped clients navigate the dot-com bust, the aftermath of 9/11, the global financial crisis (and recovery) from 2007-2013, the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent sharp market selloff in 2020, along with the accompanying inflation surges, recession fears, recovery, and political uncertainty in the years that have followed.
Looking back at all we’ve collectively sustained over the past several decades (let alone the variety of individual challenges that make up daily life), I’ve sometimes thought, “How did we [the proverbial we] make that all work? How did we make it through still smiling and still standing on the other side?”
On reflection the answer for me is simple – by being true to who we are and laser focused on our purpose and core values. At CWM, our purpose has always been to help our clients achieve their dreams and live their best lives. We do that by analyzing and providing information to empower mindful and sustainable choices when it comes to investment and lifestyle goals. Our job is not to tell anyone what their goals should be, but rather to help plan and present options to thoughtfully and sustainably pursue them.
I’ve always been proud of our team’s long tenure, currently averaging >14 years. As a service-first firm, our team members have always been the heart of our organization and the value behind our brand. We make thoughtful efforts to develop and plug the individual personalities and skill sets into roles where they’re likely to excel. The result is caring and skilled people, skillfully caring for our clients.
Our advisors and planners all hold advanced credentials, in line with the firm’s goal of providing high technical expertise alongside high-touch client service. As an example, our Lead Advisor Brian J. Lockett, CFP®, also holds the designation of Accredited Estate Planner®—a graduate-level specialization in estate planning that recognizes a high level of dedication and service.
Additional professional designations and accreditations held by the team include:
- Behavioral Financial Advisor™ (BFA™) - this certification focuses on the psychology behind financial decisions and aims to help clients recognize emotional biases, manage behavior during volatile markets, and make decisions consistent with their long-term goals.
- Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor® (CRPC®) - this accreditation specializes in retirement planning, including retirement income, Social Security, asset management, distribution strategies, and other issues clients face before and during retirement.
- Investment Advisor Certified Compliance Professional® (IACCP®) - this designation is a compliance and regulatory credential and demonstrates specialized knowledge of investment advisor regulation, fiduciary obligations, and Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) compliance programs.
One of our core fundamentals is to be relentless about improvement. To that end, we are looking ahead to several initiatives in 2026 and beyond, including:
- A Client Advisory Board, kicked off in May, where clients from different backgrounds and years with the firm gather to share their perspectives.
- Expanded subject-specific webinars and videos to help provide real-time content to clients on financial and related topics. From college planning to generational wealth transfer and cybersecurity, we have built a library of tools that clients and family members of all generations can use to spark conversations and make strong decisions. Please contact us if you have specific topics you'd like to learn more about!
- Expanded service offerings to incorporate additional tools like 1031 exchanges and alternative investments.
- While working to keep people at the center of our service process, we're developing and testing AI phone phone (backup) assistant to support our front desk and help direct calls within the office. The assistant is not intended as a solution to answer your questions or take the place of a caring team member - but rather to help you reach the right caring team member faster, saving you time, and unnecessary disruption for our hardworking staff.
- And watch your calendar for upcoming events! We've got multiple offerings on deck during the remainder of the year, including welcoming back neurologist Dr. Marc Milstein, who will be joining us in October for a Part 2 discussion on brain health and longevity.
- And don't forget our Sounding Board Service - a 30-minute session available to you, or those you care about, to discuss time-sensitive financial topics outside of your regular meetings. For parents of adult children in particular, we care about the people that are important to you and want to help them on a path to future success.
I’m proud of what we’ve built together, but even more energized by what lies ahead. Our commitment is to keep listening, learning, and improving; showing up for our clients and their families – not just for the next market cycle or milestone, but for the generations and decades to come. Thank you for being part of our first 25 years.
