CWM's Shred & E-Cycle Event was a Success!

In early June, the CWM team partnered with The Hagen Firm, Purcell Legal and the Foundation for Edmonds Schools to host a community Shred & E-Cycle event. We shredded over 5 TONS of paper and collected 6,047 pounds of electronic materials – diverting it from the landfill and preventing about 186,022 pounds of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere! We also stocked the Nourishing Network van with pantry items and raised nearly $500 for students in the Edmonds school district who may be experiencing housing insecurity!
Why did CWM host a shred & e-cycle event?
We are vigilant about confidentiality – and we know one of the best ways to protect personal information is to be able to properly dispose of old documents. We are advocates for all things regarding data privacy and cybersecurity, and creating a space for community members to properly dispose of electronic waste is important to us. Many of our attendees mentioned they were surprised at how much stuff they had to bring once they started going through it!
We also believe that being an active part of our community is core to who we are. It wasn’t an afterthought that we asked for pantry donations for the Nourishing Network. Over the course of the 2024-2025 school year, this organization provided weekend meal kits to more than 400 families. It is important to us that we show up for our community and make a difference.
Thank you to everyone in our community who participated in our shred & e-cycle event! Whether you had 60 years’ worth of paperwork to shred, an old computer that you wanted to keep out of the landfill, or just stopped by and said “hi” (and maybe also hopped in to help) – thank you.
