Gary was born dirt-poor on a small farm in southern Idaho. Today, Gary has a multi-million dollar net worth and enjoys sharing the good life with his wife, friends, family, and clients.
Gary began investing at age 23. He only had $125 a month to invest, but strong burning desire to create a comfortable lifestyle for his family and leave a legacy. Now, at 58, Gary is considered among the best wealth managers in the Northwest. His success was not achieved by luck, inheritance, or an Ivy League schooling, but by educating himself and maintaining a disciplined investment approach, steeped in common sense.
“I have a very strong distaste for losing money,” said Gary. “Our investment philosophy is all about the exit strategy. The buy-and-hold all the way to the bottom strategy is not good method to build wealth.”
Under Gary’s leadership, CWM is proud to say they were able to move their clients’ primary investments to cash before the economic disaster hit in the fall 2008.
Before going out on his own, Gary cut his teeth in the banking industry. He began his financial career working for US Bancorp for 13 years as Senior Trust officer. He also served as Vice President and Manager of the Trust Real Estate Division, overseeing $850 million in assets. As Marketing Director at Colonial Life & Accident/UNUM for three years, Gary specialized in pre-tax spending plans and payroll deducted personal benefit plans. Gary’s extensive and diverse background helped to catapult him, as an independent financial advisor, to American Express Financial Advisors’ top-ranked new advisor in the U.S. in 1995-96. Currently, Gary is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA®) and President of Comprehensive Wealth Management, LLC. Gary is a Certified Financial Planner, and has developed more than 1000 comprehensive financial plans and currently manages more than $360 million in assets for his clients.
As the recipient of a number of awards for Outstanding Client Service and Production, including Best in Client Satisfaction four-years in a row by Seattle Magazine, Gary was also listed twice in Forbes magazine as one of the Top Ten Most Dependable Wealth Managers in the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii.
“I still believe this country is one of the easiest places in the world to build wealth,” said Gary. “And I can teach others the knowledge they need to become millionaires.”
Gary has also proven himself to be a dedicated philanthropist, devoting time, money, and other resources to community organizations such as the Edmonds Community College Foundation, PAWS, Cascade Symphony, Alderwood-Terrace and Lynnwood Rotary Clubs, Northwest Harvest, Camp Korey, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and the Woodland Park Zoo. He currently serves on the Dunham Funds Advisory Services Board and as Director of the Board for Maroon Bells, a candy and confectionery company based out of Colorado.
Gary and his lovely wife Cheryl live in Edmonds and have two children and two energetic terriers.
